USBR (U.S. Bureau of Reclamation). 1979. Trinity County power and water appraisal. Report. U.S.Bureau of Reclamation, Mid-Pacific Region, Sacramento, California. Available: www.trrp.net/library/document?id=2042.

The Trinity River Basin has been severely impacted by man's activities which include logging, road construction, mining, and the construction and operation of Trinity and Lewiston Dams of the Trinity River Division, Central Valley Project, California. These activities as well as other land uses have had considerable impact on the fish and wildlife resources of the basin. The Trinity River Basin Fish and Wildlife Task Force, comprised of representatives from 13 Federal, State, and local agencies, was created in 1974 to resolve the fish and wildlife problems in the basin attributable to the Trinity River project as well as other causes. The Task Force proposed a comprehensive action program consisting of interim measures which could be taken immediately over a 3-year period to improve the fish and wildlife populations and the formulation of a long-range management program that would restore and maintain the fish and wildlife resources at a level that would be acceptable to all concerned. Congress provided the initial funds for this program in FY 1976. In developing a management program for the fish and wildlife resources and other natural resources, consideration must be given to the expected impacts that future population growth in the basin would cause. Increased water and power needs for an expanding population will undoubtedly create pressure for solutions which could adversely affect the fish and wildlife resources of the basin. This report includes some of the data which must be recognized in the process of evolving a comprehensive management program.
